The word Doula comes from ancient Greek meaning "a women who serves." They provide you and your partner with informational, physical, and emotional support before, during and after the birth of your child. They are not doctors or midwives. They do nothing medical and will always suggest you ask your healthcare provider questions concerning you and the babies health and well being. They offer the constant support that is often missing from doctors and nurses in a hospital setting. Childbirth is an intense experience. But having a doula there can give you the strength and encouragement to get through it.
